8 Ways to Keep Older Adults Safe and Healthy During Coronavirus

Amid the rising fatalities due to coronavirus pandemic, older adults are among the most influenced by the fatal disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, older adults are at the highest chance of getting an infection. They have a high risk of catching the virus due to the lack of a healthy immune system. They are more vulnerable to such illnesses.

So, they must follow some precautionary measures that will help them to protect from COVID-19. Apart from that, aging people need to be more careful when it comes to their health and safety.

Here are the ways to keep older adults safe and healthy during coronavirus-

Clean your Hands

Do not go out and practice washing hands and face frequently with soap and water. Make sure not to rub the face, eyes, and nose. After touching any things like a door handle or tv remote, quickly sanitize your hands.

Maintain Hygiene

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough, so, not to spread the infection to others. After using tissue paper, put on a wastebasket immediately. Use a mask.

Healthy Diet

Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. And also take a healthy diet with fresh fruit juice to strengthen immunity.

Exercise

Exercise and meditate regularly for physical fitness. No need to do vigorous exercises, some moderate activities only to keep the body moving can also benefit you a lot. Those who exercise daily are less prone to diseases. They tend to have a better immune system, digestive functioning, better blood pressure, and bone density. It also intensifies flexibility, mobility, and balance. Besides this, it can help older adults stay strong, healthy, and independent.

Sunshine

Enjoy taking some sunshine that is good for immunity and bad for viruses. Sunlight also assists our bodies to form Vitamin D. It is crucial for healthy immune function.

Sleep

At least 7 to 8 hours of sleep is essential to fight against infection and inflammation. Research shows that people who sleep less than that are more prone to get a cold when exposed to the virus. Additionally, sleeping dilemmas linked to many chronic diseases and conditions like type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and depression. So, sleep well and stay healthy.

Reduce Stress

Keep your mind busy with any activities to reduce stress like planting a small garden, listening to calming music, and enjoying craft or hobby. Besides this, laughter is the best medicine to reduce stress. To bring a smile to your face, you can read some funnies or watch your favorite comedy shows.
